the Goal

Start with Identifying What Your Goals Are

Identifying Fitness Goals Is Key to Success

The journey toward achieving your fitness goals includes experiences, struggles, and triumphs that are part of the pursuit of a healthier and happier version of yourself.

Eating Habits

Hello, can I get a regular turkey sandwich with ALL the veggies…and that big-ass chocolate chip cookie! Starting on a fitness journey forced me to confront my intimate relationship with food. I had to change the days of mindless snacking and embrace a better approach to nutrition. If it’s in the house, most likely I will eat it so I had to make a conscious effort to simply not buy the food I knew was not the best to eat. Meal prepping is great if you have the patience for it. I tried meal prepping and it worked great for a short while. I am not one for eating the same food over and over for days and I like fresh eats more than leftovers (especially if it’s several days in a row). So for me, meal prep was not the ideal choice but I know it works great for others. It doesn’t hurt to at least try it out then you can decide if it is for you or not. Portion control like using a smaller plate to “load up” works most of the time. That is until you decide you’re still hungry and end up getting seconds or thirds which defeats the whole purpose. Experimenting with new, wholesome recipes became my new ally. There are a ton of great recipes on the internet. Sometimes, I’ll check out what I already have in the pantry and fridge, do a search listing what I have, and see what recipes pop up. Sometimes the recipes don’t end up being great but most of the time they are delish! And you get to clean out some of the stuff you have in the fridge and pantry in the process!

The Way You Look

The mirror used to be my worst critic, reflecting insecurities and self-doubt. But, as I started witnessing the positive changes in my body, my perspective shifted. It shouldn’t just be about physical appearance. It should also be about feeling strong, confident, and comfortable in your skin…OK, it’s mainly about physical appearance so start celebrating the small victories that became a crucial part of your transformation. Each milestone is a testament to your dedication.

Mindfulness

Incorporating mindfulness into my fitness journey was a game-changer. Meditation became a daily ritual, even if it’s sitting on the toilet taking care of your business. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with multi-tasking! Paying attention to your thoughts without judgment, whether during a body workout, a jog, or driving down the road on your way to run errands, brings a sense of calm and purpose.

Stress Relief

Life’s challenges can often feel overwhelming, but I feel exercise or working out is an effective stress-buster. Whether it’s a brisk jog, a bodyweight workout, or a peaceful walking session, physical activity became my retreat. The endorphin rush and the sense of accomplishment became my armor against the stresses of life. It’s a great “alone time” session where you’re not distracted or you don’t have anyone bugging you so you can focus on just you at that moment in time.

Pain Relief

Chronic pain is a constant companion, hindering progress. Instead of letting it dictate my limitations, I learned to listen to my body and incorporate exercises and workouts that promote flexibility and strength. A combination of targeted exercises and workouts became my prescription for pain relief. At least it works for the period I am actively exercising or working out.

Changing It Up

Boredom is the opponent of progress. To keep things exciting, I embrace variety in my fitness routine. From trying new outdoor locations like different parks and trails to switching up my workout routine, the element of surprise keeps me engaged and motivated. The fitness world is vast, and exploring its diverse offerings became an adventure rather than a chore. One day, I may jog for a short distance between bodyweight exercises like leg raises and lunges. The next day, I may just go for a jog. And the next day, I may just do bodyweight exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. I rarely do the same exact workout every day of every week so I don’t get bored. That can very well affect your motivation to continue so change it up!

It’s not just about looking different. It’s about making your body and mind work together in harmony. Whether you’re getting bulkier or slimmer, remember the journey is just as important as the destination…and not quitting or saying to yourself, “I did it!” just to go back to the same old lifestyle of before the accomplishment.  The point is to keep moving forward and to be consistent with your fitness until the day you die!! OK, that was a bit much but I am sure you get the point. Embrace the power of fitness, and you’ll find a stronger, healthier, and more confident version of yourself waiting, and hopefully, you will obtain that drive to continue evolving as you go!
